This policy explains what personal information Gold in Canada collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it and the choices you have. Where we need your consent, for example to send you our email, we ask for it when we collect your information.
Who is responsible
Gold in Canada (goldincanada.ca) is published by Flaneur Ventures LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company in the United States. Flaneur Ventures LLC is responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
Our Privacy Officer is accountable for how we handle personal information and answers privacy questions and requests. What we collect and why
When you sign up for our email
- What we collect: your email address, the date and time you signed up and confirmed, the sign-up form you used and the IP address you used.
- Why: to send you the email and checklist you asked for, and to keep a record of your consent.
- How: our email service, AWeber, collects it when you submit a sign-up form. We use confirmed opt-in: you are added only after you click the link in our first email.
- Opens and clicks: AWeber records whether you open our emails and which links you click. We use this to see which topics readers find useful.
Our email includes offers from companies that pay us. We send it only to people who signed up and confirmed.
When you contact us
- What we collect: your name, your email address, the topic you choose and your message.
- Why: to answer you and to fix or improve our pages.
We do not add you to our email list because you contacted us.
When you visit the website
- Server logs: our hosting providers automatically record technical details of each visit, such as IP address, browser, the page requested and the time. They are used to keep the website running and secure.
- Google tag and Google Analytics: count visits and show which pages are read and how visitors found us. Through Google Ads, the Google tag also lets us show our ads to people who have visited the website.
- Meta Pixel: measures our ads on Facebook and Instagram, including whether a visit led to an email sign-up, and lets us show our ads to people who have visited the website.
- AWeber form counter: counts how many times our sign-up forms are shown.
- Videos: our pages show a still image of each video. The video loads from YouTube only if you press play.
The Google tag, the Meta Pixel and the AWeber counter use cookies or similar technology. They send details of your visit, such as the pages you view, your device, your browser and your IP address, to Google, Meta and AWeber.
We do not collect payment card or bank details. We do not sell precious metals or take orders.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- We do not give your email address to the companies we write about. If you click one of our links to a company, that company can see that you came from our website.
- We do not use your information to make decisions about you, such as decisions about credit.
Consent and your choices
- Our email: we send it only if you signed up and confirmed. You can withdraw your consent at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email, or by writing to us. We act on an unsubscribe request within 10 business days, and usually straight away.
- Analytics and advertising cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout), and you can control the ads Meta shows you in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings. You can still read the whole website with cookies blocked.
- Do Not Track: we do not respond to Do Not Track browser signals.
Who we share it with
We use these service providers, and they handle personal information for us:
- AWeber: email sign-ups and sending.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- WPX: hosting for the system we write in, our contact form and our email inbox.
- Google: analytics, and YouTube for videos you choose to play.
- Meta: measuring our ads and showing them to people who have visited the website.
- Formbricks: holds the answers to our old survey until we delete them (see "How long we keep it").
AWeber, Vercel, WPX and Formbricks handle your information only to provide their services to us. Google and Meta also use the information they receive under their own privacy policies.
We may also disclose personal information when the law requires it, for example to answer a court order. If our business or this website is sold, the personal information we hold would pass to the new owner, who would have to use it as this policy describes.
Storage outside Canada
Flaneur Ventures LLC is a US company. We and our service providers store and process personal information in the United States, and some providers may also process it in other countries. While it is there, it can be accessed by the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of those countries under their laws. If you live in Quebec, this means your information is communicated outside Quebec.
How long we keep it
- Email subscribers: while you are subscribed.
- Sign-ups that are never confirmed: deleted within 60 days.
- After you unsubscribe: we keep your email address, with the dates you signed up and unsubscribed, on a do-not-email list for as long as we send email. We use it only to make sure we never email you again and to show what you agreed to.
- Contact messages: deleted 12 months after our last reply. If a message is about a legal claim, we keep it until the claim is resolved.
- Server logs: kept by our hosting providers for no more than 30 days.
- Google Analytics: visit data linked to a cookie is kept for no more than 14 months. Meta keeps Meta Pixel data under its own policy.
- Privacy requests: we keep your request and our answer for two years after we reply, so we can show how we handled it.
- Our old survey: this website used to have a survey, run by Formbricks, that asked for your name, email address, phone number, age range, income, retirement savings, how much you could invest each month, the retirement accounts you hold and your attitude to risk. We have stopped running it, and we will delete the answers it collected by 30 November 2026.
Security
We use service providers that encrypt information as it travels to and from the website, and we limit access to personal information to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach of our safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and report it to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us:
- whether we hold personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
- to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- how we have used it and who we have shared it with;
- to delete it, apart from a do-not-email entry that stops us emailing you again;
- to stop using it, by withdrawing your consent.
Send your request to the Privacy Officer at hello@goldincanada.ca or at our mailing address. We may ask you to confirm that the information is yours, for example by writing from the email address it concerns. We answer within 30 days and we do not charge for it. If we need more time, we will tell you why and when to expect an answer, as the law allows.
Complaints
Please write to our Privacy Officer first, and we will try to resolve your concern. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (https://www.priv.gc.ca). If you live in Quebec, you can also contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (https://www.cai.gouv.qc.ca).
Children
This website is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has signed up for our email, write to us and we will delete the sign-up.
Changes to this policy
We will post any change on this page with a new date. If a change affects how we use the email address you gave us, we will tell subscribers by email before it takes effect, and ask for consent again where the law requires it.
