How we get paid
We earn money in two ways: affiliate commissions and advertising. When you click certain links to companies we write about and then buy from them or open an account, that company may pay us. It costs you nothing extra. Today these companies are Silver Gold Bull and BullionStar. Boxes on our pages marked "Advertisement" are paid or affiliate placements.
Payment can affect which companies we cover and where and how prominently they appear on our website. It does not buy a review or change what we report about prices, fees or terms. When we recommend a company, the article says why and links to the sources we used. A company's appearance on our website is not a guarantee of its products, prices or service. Facts, prices and dates
We check the facts in our articles against primary sources, such as a company's own published prices and terms and the Canada Revenue Agency's guidance, and we show the date we checked them. Prices, fees, minimums and rules change, sometimes quickly. Confirm them with the company, and confirm tax rules with the CRA or a tax professional, before you buy. Our opinions are labelled as opinions.
The spot prices in the bar at the top of our pages come from a third-party data provider. They are for information only, they are not an offer to buy or sell, and they can be delayed or wrong. Check a live quote before you act.
Risk
Precious metals prices go up and down, sometimes sharply, and you can lose money. Dealers sell above the spot price and buy back below it, so metal you sell soon after buying is usually worth less than you paid. Storage, insurance and account fees add to the cost.
All decisions to buy, sell or hold are yours. We cannot promise that any investment will rise in value or be profitable. Do not buy with money you cannot afford to lose or may need within the next few years. Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Figures in our articles, such as premiums, fees or returns, are examples worked out from published sources on the date shown. They are not predictions of your results.
Tax and registered accounts
How gold and silver are taxed in Canada depends on your situation, including whether you hold the metal in a registered account such as an RRSP, TFSA or LIRA. Only some coins and bars can be held in a registered account, and holding the wrong kind can mean extra tax. Tax rules change. Check the Canada Revenue Agency's guidance or ask a qualified Canadian tax professional before you act.
